Spring

24.3.25

This week, The Dalmatians held their class assembly. We were proud to share our learning about history, talking about shops in the 1950s and telling the story of Mary Anning.

We had a full house of parents and carers and everyone did their very best!

In DT we have been exploring structures. Our challenge was to see if we could make a tall tower from paper. We needed to make sure that the structure was stable.

We had great fun and we managed to construct some really tall towers!

The Dalmatians have been celebrating the successes of Freddie, Charlotte and Ranveer (27.3.25)

17.3.25

On 18th March we had an exciting visit to the Chatteris Literary Festival. We walked to the library where Louise showed us around. We had a chance to explore the book shelves and enjoy some great books.

Then we walked up to Kingsfield School where author and illustrator Ellie Sandall read us one of her picture books, Balancing Bernie. e played a balancing game with toy dogs and we designed our own dogs. It was great fun!

In The Dalmatians, we are celebrating the successes of Harper, Freddie and Noel (13.3.25) and Charlotte, Noel and Benett ( 20.3.25)

24.2.25

It was great to see everyone after half term!

We have been exploring print making using a range of different objects. We made our own print blocks from plasticene and then printed our own designs based on the work of American printmaker Karen Lederer.

We really enjoyed this year's World Book Day! There were lots of great costumes and we enjoyed a range of book based activities.

We shared books with children from Year 5 classes.

We shared the book 'Here Be Dragons' by Susannah Lloyd. She was the winning author of our picture book awards in the Autumn Term. We drew our own dragons.

The Dalmatians are celebrating the successes of Noel, Lara and Benett (24.2.25)

14.2.25

We have had a great half term and we're now ready for a good break.

It was good to see so many parents and guardians and Parents' Evenings this week. We had lots of good news to share!

In the last fortnight, we have been working as scientists, finding out about everyday materials and investigating their properties. We had fun finding out which materials are waterproof and which are absorbent.

In maths, we have been investigating the numbers between 10 and 20, using the symbols <, > and = to compare numbers.

In History, we have been finding out about the life and work of David Attenborough, comparing him to Mary Anning.

In The Dalmatians, we are celebrating the successes of Eden, Ivan and Lara (6.2.25) and Ivan, Holly and Benett (13.2.25)

31.1.25

We have and some very wet and wintry weather over the last couple of weeks.

Thank you to all of those who have provided some extra clothing such as spare socks. This has meant that the children have been able to play outside in all weathers.

In English, the children have worked hard to produce some good entries for Mary Anning's diary. It is great to see them becoming more confident writers.

We are now moving on to writing a non fiction text or 'non-chronological report' and we will be focusing on writing about the ichthyosaur as this builds upon our work about Mary Anning.

The children have used their DT skills to make some moving pictures. We learnt how to make sliding mechanisms and then applied this by making an ocean scene featuring a moving ichthyosaur. The children were delighted with their work!

In The Dalmatians, we are celebrating the successes of Lara, Charlie and Benett (23.1.25) and Alice-Mai, Benett and Noel (30.1.25)

17.1.25

We have had a very busy couple of weeks!

In History, we are learning about significant people from the past and we are focusing on Mary Anning.

We started by looking closely at a portrait of her, noticing details and trying to work out as much as we could about who she was and what she did.

Mary found fossils in her home town of Lyme Regis and her important discoveries have helped us to find out about the dinosaurs that lived millions of years ago.

We really enjoyed watching this video which helped us to visualise Mary Anning and her life more than 200 years ago.

In English, we are learning about the features of a diary and we will be taking on the role of Mary Anning to write a diary entry.

In Art, we are developing our painting skills. We practised making thick and thin lines using primary colours.

We looked at paintings by Piet Mondrian and then painted our own designs.

We built on this in our computing lesson by exploring the straight line  and flood fill tools on 2paintapicture. We accessed this by logging into our Purple Mash accounts. We used these tools to create designs in the style of Mondrian.

In The Dalmatians, we have been celebrating the successes of Jacob, Charlotte and Lara ( 10.1.25) and Dougie, Jacob and Ranveer (17.1.25)

Welcome to the Spring Term!

Happy New Year!

It was lovely to see the children back at school today. They were excited to see their friends and to tell us about their Christmas activities. They settled back into our routines quickly and are already hard at work!
