Autumn

WB: 15th December

It may have been the last week before the Christmas holidays but what a busy week it was!  In science, the children created electrical circuits and investigated increasing the number of cells and bulbs and what happened as a result.  We learnt about the differences between series and parallel circuits and also learnt.  We practised drawing circuits using the scientific symbols, found out about how batteries work and explored whether materials were insulators or conductors.

In DT, we found out about pulleys and gears.  We used k'nex kits to build models which use gears to move: a windmill, a car window and an egg beater.  These models allowed us to explore how gears can help to change the direction of movement.

We ended the week with a celebration day where we created Christmas cards and calendars, played the pirate game and took part in sporting activities.

Christmas Jumper Day 2025

WB: 8th December

This week, we have continued our learning on earthquakes, mountains and volcanoes.   The children have been asking lots of great questions to deepen their understanding.  We have also been busy creating some artwork to go on display.  We have looked at well-known pieces of artwork and then used these as inspiration to decorate an image of trainers in the style of the artwork. We look forward to sharing the final display with you.

Children in Need 2025

Today, we were invited to come to school in non-uniform for a donation.  We also challenged ourselves to complete 25 challenges throughout the day.

Summary of Autumn 1

What a jam-packed half term we have had!

This half term, we have been busy learning about monarchs, finding out about inheritance and evolution alongside the theories of Charles and Darwin, producing some great pieces of art work using some of Frida Kahlo's work as inspiration and so much more.  Take a look at the pictures which showcase some of what we have been up to.

WB: 15th September

We have had a busy week.  On Tuesday, we had our first trip of Year 6.  In history, we have been learning about the monarchy since 1066.  To support our learning, we visited Oliver Cromwell's House and Ely Cathedral.  At Ely Cathedral, we found out about Tudor crime and punishment and the influence of Henry VIII.  Whilst at Oliver Cromwell's House, we found out more about the time when Oliver Cromwell was Lord Protector.  We found out lots of interesting information and enjoyed exploring both of these places.

Week Beginning: 1.9.25

It was fantastic welcoming all the children back after the summer holidays.  We were really impressed with how well the children were demonstrating the 5Rs.  What a great start to Year 6!
